Chapter 18
MIKA
I tried to tell myself that it was only dinner. That it was Ryan, my friend, my boss, and now, my husband. We had countless meals together, we would have countless more. This shouldn't feel like it was any different than any of those.
But it did.
It wasnât just because of the conversation I had with Jamie about Ryan and me, and my decision to try and be with him in a more physical sense. It wasnât just that he had been so kind when I came home, so concerned about me. It wasnât just that he rubbed my feet and turned me on with only his hands and it made me think of all the other ways he could turn me on. It wasnât just that when he had asked me to dinner it had felt like he was asking me on a date.
Though, it was all of that and more. It was the way that he looked at me that seemed to turn my heart to jelly. How he smiled at me as if he was imagining what it would be like to kiss me. It was the promise in his voice about what tonight would bring.
It had been on the tip of my tongue to just talk to Ryan. To tell him what I was thinking, what I wanted to propose to him. But I hadnât been able to bring myself to do it. It was one thing to talk to him about a multi-billion-dollar merger, or how best to plan an apartment complex. It was quite another to talk to him about our relationship.
But I knew I needed to. It was hanging there between us, just waiting to be talked about. I knew he felt it too and I figured there was no better place to do it than at the restaurant hopefully after a nice meal and some alcohol.
When I walked downstairs, I saw Ryan waiting for me. He had dressed as casually as I had, though he looked incredibly sexy. I realized I had only seen him in suits or his jogging shorts. There was something that was somehow more intimate in seeing him in a pair of faded jeans and a black sweater. As if I was seeing a side of him that most people didnât get to see and it made me want to see more of him.
âYou look amazing,â he said as I walked down the stairs.
I looked down at my jeans, soft pink sweater, and boots. âThis old thing,â I said and smiled.
His eyes roamed over my body and I felt everywhere he looked as if he was touching me. I was half of the mind to tell him to forget dinner and just go to his bed, but I held off. I knew we needed to talk before anything could happen. I wanted to be sure that we both knew and understood everything that we were agreeing to. If I jumped into bed with him that might never happen.
âShall we?â he asked and we walked outside where he had the car waiting.
